Nechells POD recently received funding from the National Grid UK. The Great Outdoors Funding has allowed the POD to organise a garden refurbishment project for the building’s front and back playground areas.
During one of our summertime community events, we consulted with both children and adults from the Nechells community about what they would like to see in The POD’s garden area. A lot of the feedback involved wanting more seated areas, and having more colour displayed in the garden. Beth was approached by West Midlands Police Team at the Prince’s Trust who offered to manage part of the garden project and with this brought along a team of seven Prince’s Trust participants who spent a week cleaning the old decking and overgrown bushes in the front garden. Once the garden was cleared they made a large raised planter bed with a bench attached and two other benches, which will enable us to open our garden space for the Nechells Community to access.
Thank you to the team from The Prince’s Trust and Phil from BAM Construction for committing their time and working hard to improve the Nechells area.
Our next steps will be to display Oliver Owl (once he has been renovated), install playground markings for the front and back playgrounds, and bring colour to the garden by painting the benches and planting flowers.
