Throughout this academic year five local schools have been involved with our Bookshare Project. This is a really exciting project that involves all children in Year 1 receiving a book a month for ten months so that they can create their own library at home. Teachers got very excited about the project, sharing teaching ideas and innovative ways of using the books. Parents also enjoyed reading the books with their children. We held a final celebration at St Joseph’s School which was attended by: St Josephs, St Vincents, Nechells, St Clements and St Chads children and teachers and we were joined by some of the parents. We were very lucky that Steve Smallman, children’s book author and illustrator, was also there to help us celebrate in style with his very funny stories and amazing drawings. Each school shared what the project had meant to them and which were their favourite books. We hope that the Bookshare Project will encourage children to enjoy reading and be lifelong bookworms.
