Living Histories Group
Yesterday was the second meeting of the Living Histories Group. This is open to anyone over 60 (or thereabouts) who would like to reminisce about their lives and times in Nechells. We’ve been talking about where we all came from – so far only one person was born in Nechells! We’ve also been looking at photos of ‘old’ Nechells, listening to some of our favourite music (the Big Bands of the 40’s and 50’s as well as Brenda Lee and Roy Orbison) and looking at newspaper clips and school reports.
Our meetings are very relaxed, with cups of tea and biscuits and a lot of fun. We had a good laugh remembering our school days, using carbolic soap, taking cod liver oil and malt extract, skipping rhymes and dancing like Elvis.
Over the next couple of months we’re aiming to collect all these stories together into a book.
Why not come and join us between 10 and 12 next Thursday.
