We had a great intergenerational morning at the POD today. Pupils from Heartlands Academy were researching life in Nechells in the past for a school production. Nine of our FiNs came to the POD early before their keep fit class to talk about what life in Nechells was like when they moved here in the 1970’s. Francis brought some brilliant photographs of how Nechells used to look before the demolition of the old houses to make way for the tower blocks. The FiNs told the pupils all about the corner shop that let you put money aside each week to save up for the pair of shoes you wanted.
Heartlands pupils found out lots of interesting facts as the FiNs answered the questions on their carefully prepared sheet and shared stories of days gone by and how Nechells has changed over the years. There were lots of smiles and laughter as the generations worked together in small groups to share and record all the fascinating stories.
The FiNs involved will be joining the Heartlands pupils again for a school lunch on Friday 14th February an event which both generations are really looking forward to!
