Today a small group of FiNs travelled to Edgbaston County Cricket Ground to attend the Birmingham Mail Annual Local Heroes Awards ceremony. David Brookes – Editor Trinity Mirror Midlands and Jo Laider – Marketing Manager, Pallasades Shopping Centre welcomed guests to this prestigious event which was presented by the Birmingham Mail in association with the Pallasades Shopping Centre.
The awards presentation was hosted by Foxy and Giuliano, there were a total of nine award categories. The FiNs who were nominated by Danny Delaney had reached the finals in the Community Project of the Year category and were in tough competition with Generation Ladywood, Symphony Hall’s 21st anniversary legacy project.
The Community Project Award was sponsored by Bournville College who this year are celebrating100 years of Quality and Experience of working with employers. The award was presented by Tom Ross from freeradio. The Friends in Nechells (FiNs) were truly delighted to have won the award and were later congratulated on their achievement by Nechells Ward Councillor Yvonne Mosquito.
The FiNs were lucky to have shared their table with Tom Ross and another award winner Maxine Ross-Wallis, who won the award for Charity Fundraiser of the Year. The FiNs had a wonderful afternoon with a delicious three course lunch and excellent company, there was lots of discussion about growing up in Birmingham and life in the 50’s when money was short but life was fun and full of happy memories despite the hardship. Todays event added to those precious memories and will be talked about for a long time to come and their experience today will be shared with the rest of the FiNs that we left back in Nechells. Thank you to everyone involved in making it such a special afternoon.
FiNs – the POD is proud of you all well done!
