Today our ESOL group was joined by Rahila Mann from Birmingham City Council and Ayan Tifow from the Mandeeq Somali Community Engagement group. They offered a workshop to stimulate discussion around the importance of community and encouraged residents to discuss local problems. The workshop was part of a programme that looks at issues around extremism and this promoted considerable discussion amongst the group. We look forward to Rahila and Ayan returning to provide workshops on drugs, internet safety and supporting young people. Hopefully some of the group will feel confident enough to become community champions and help to make Nechells a safer place to live and grow up in.
