Following the success of the Zone Olympics last summer, we held the Nechells Zone Games today at the Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr. The weather was kind and we all had a marvellous day. Bloomsbury Nursery and Childrens Centre, Cromwell Primary, Heartlands Academy, Nechells Academy, St Clement’s Academy, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary and St Vincent’s Catholic Primary all joined us for the day. There were 64 races held and for the second year running the winners were St Vincent’s however they were closely followed by Cromwell and St Clement’s so watch out next year St Vincent’s you have some stiff competition!
We would like to that all the schools for taking part and bringing their pupils, staff and parents to make the games such a successful event. Thank you to the staff and pupils of Heartlands Academy for organising the races and reporting the results to Zahira who had the very hard job of adding up all the scores. First aid was provided by The British Red Cross who also won a silver medal in the morning adult ladies event. Over the lunch break there were over 1000 ice creams and lollies given to the competitors and the audience which were delicious. At the end of the games the winners cups were presented by Nigel Pontin from Smurfitt Kappa SSK.
