The term as part of the Numeracy Programme students from Aston University have been working with pupils in zone schools on a variety of Numeracy based activities, this culminated in a Pirate Challenge Event held at Heartlands Academy which brought all the schools involved together for a fun day with maths!
Teachers commented: The maths activities that the children did with the students were fun and engaging, the students from Aston University were enthusiastic and well prepared. The Numeracy day at Heartlands has been a real success. The children have been totally engaged, focused and enthused by the whole experience. The scheme was successful the students worked well with the children, the weekly activities were fun and the children looked forward to them. Children enjoyed the sessions in schools, the students worked with the whole class and were well organised. The pupils from Heartlands Academy were very good at explaining the challenges. The children throughly enjoyed the Pirate Challenge, the activities were engaging and interactive. Staff were very helpful and the event was well organised.
We would like the thank Aston University for working with the EAZ on the Numeracy project and for all the hard work that their students put into making the project such a great success. The children at our zone schools really enjoyed their weekly maths sessions and had a brilliant time taking up the Pirate Challenge 2015. Thanks also go to Heartlands Academy for hosting the challenge day and to their students for being such excellent role models for our zone pupils.
