Twenty seven of us visited Blenheim Palace today, the sun shone and we had a great day. There were lots of things to see, we started with a nice cup of tea, then we had a tour of the house with our guide Liz Chapman.
We learnt about the secret lock and key on the huge front door, the history of the house, the family and all about Winston Churchill. Liz pointed out lots of thing it would be easy to miss including the visiting winter artists portrait with the heads painted on to existing bodies and the tapestry which includes a dog with the horses feet! We saw the room where Winston Churchill was born and how handsome he was in his youth, there were lots of examples of the paintings that he did and a display of some of the ones that were reproduced on greeting cards. We would like to thank Liz for such an interesting and entertaining tour.
After lunch some of the group toured the formal gardens while others visited the butterfly house, played in the maze or relaxed with a lovely ice cream before our journey home.
