Heartlands Academy hosted a visit and laid on a super fish and chip lunch for some of the FiN group today. The Principal Mrs Jones and Community Director Mrs Buckingham welcomed the Nechells residents and talked about the wonderful new school and all the opportunities that there are for the young people today. Several of the group had children who had attended the old school when it was Duddeston Manor and talked about how much things have changed over the years.
The group visited several departments and spoke to the classes about what it was like when they were at school – with no calculators, mobile phones or modern technology, just mental arithmetic with a blackboard and chalk!
The group were very impressed with the facilities, the caring environment in the school and the behaviour of the young people in their lessons and as they moved around the school. The FiN Group commented how much had changed since their time in education.
Everyone really enjoyed the visit and would like to say a big “Thank You” to staff and pupils at Heartlands Academy for making them feel so welcome and for such a lovely lunch.
