Christmas Closedown
The POD closed today for our Christmas break, it has been a very quiet week, the schools have closed now and the heavy snow fall on Saturday has kept most people in the warmth of their own homes.

West Midlands Police Help To Fund The POD Post Newspaper
Officers from West Midlands Police presented a cheque for £600 to Noran Flynn the EAZ Director at the POD.

Allotments -Updates And Developments

Family groups attended a training event at St Georges Community Hub. Whist there we learnt how to CHIT potatoes. We learnt about crop rotations – Root vegetables, brassicas and others. The families planted onions, transplanted Geraniums into bigger pots and planted marigold seeds into large trays.

Macmillan Coffee Morning At The POD
On Friday the 24th of September the POD held a Macmillan Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and raised £115. Thank you to everyone who help raise money for the Macmillan appeal.

Summer Play Scheme Use The New Play Ground
The Extended Services Summer My Choice and Transition Activities started at the POD on Monday 26th July and will run until Friday 6th August.

The new playground areas have had logos, games, puzzles and a big world map installed ready for our Summer Holiday activities.

POD Extension Completed
The new extension to the POD is now finished and it looks wonderful - like it has always been there!

POD Car Park
There was never enough space to park at the POD, so as part of our new build we had the car park extended and re marked in official parking bays, including disabled access and designated spaces for our POD mini buses.

Getting The Roof On
Things have really moved on since our last blog, the foundations have been laid, the walls built and the roof will be completed by the end of this week. To show you how the building has progressed we are going to create a gallery of the photographs we have taken so that you can see the building take shape.

Home Access Grant - Update
People are now starting to recieve their computers . Once you have been awarded your grant you will recieve a " credit card " with £528.00 worth of credit on it. You will recieve a leaflet outlining where you can spend your credit - Apollo 2000 , Brighthouse etc... Don't worry it is all very clear . The staff in the shops are very knowledgeable and they will guide you . You will recieve your computer plus a T Mobile dongle , this is your internet access . The internet access is available free for 12 months after that you can top it up just like a mobile phone.

Site Cleared And The Base For The New Play Area In Place
The digger continued to clear the site today and all the surplus earth has been removed from the site in a great big lorry.Â

The Digger Moves In
The digger has started work on moving all the surplus earth from the site. Â The old trees have been removed these will be replaced when the work is nearing completion and will include a small orchard to complete our allotment area.

Home Access Grants
Dear Parent
Did you know that your child could be entitled to a free computer and a years worth of internet access for free? To qualify-
Your child should receive free school meals
Your child should be aged between 7 to 14
You should not already have internet access in your home (They do check!)
You receive Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
Have a house hold income less than £16,040 per year
To apply you will need to call 0333 200 1004. You will be asked a series of questions i.e. does your child receive free school meals? You will then be sent an application pack. You will be asked to provide evidence of Child Benefit. If you do not have a recent letter (less than 12 months old) You should contact the Child Benefit Agency on 0845 3021444 and request “a proof of Child Benefit†letter (Do this now as there is a waiting list of 3 weeks!)
Please note these grants are limited and they are provided on a first come first serve basis.
